Whether you need a repair or replacement, here’s a look at three questions you must ask before you hire a roofing company.

Are you licensed and insured?

First and foremost make sure you ask about licensing and insurance. By law, a roofing company must be licensed and insured. A license proves that they have completed the training that’s necessary to properly work with and install roofing materials. Insurance – including liability and workers’ compensation – protects you, the customer, from having to cover the cost of any issues; for example, if a worker gets injured on your property or if your home is damaged, the roofing company will pay for the related expenses.

Is your office local?

Make sure that the roofing company you hire has a local office. That way, if any issues arise, you’ll be able to locate them. If they don’t have a local office, consider that a red flag and keep on looking. It isn’t unusual for so-called professionals to offer services, take a down payment or do a subpar job, and then disappear, never to be heard from again.

Do you offer a warranty?

A reputable roofing company will offer a warranty that covers materials and workmanship. If any issues arise as a result of poor-quality materials or workmanship, the company will pay for the related repairs.
